After almost 50 years in Myanmar, the non-military person elected as President. Human rights leader Aung Suu Kyi’s colleague Htin Kyaw took presidential swearing on March 30.

Key Points of Democratic government:

  • Aung San Suu Kyi’s party “National League for Democracy (NLD)” won highest 360 seats out of 652 seats in the parliamentary election held on March.
  • Aung san Suu Kyi is appointed as foreign minister by the new government. As per the constitutional amendment, Aung san Suu Kyi was not eligible to contest the presidential election.
  • As per the amendment, Parents of Sons and daughters who are holding foreign citizenship has been banned from contesting the president election.
